Students Get Temporary Job As Geologists

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. – Students got an occupation change to work as a team of geologists with the task of analyzing another life simply through a magnifying glass. “We got to touch them and not just look at them in a textbook so we can learn what they look like,” 8th grade student, Dawson Dale said. Each team had a their own fossil kit with the necessary tools for their temporary occupation. Many of the students had unique parts of the day that stood out to them.m “I liked the horn fossil I like the way it was shaped and how it was indented at the end,” Jack Tucker is an 8th grade student said. “I saw a clam, Indian money and my favorite was the shark tooth,” Lydia Jones said. All are fossils that can be found here in West Tennessee. “This is a great opportunity to have Dr. Dunagan from UT-Martin come because we don’t have fossils to look at but he has a wide variety so I know the kids would love looking at it hands on,” Magen Beard said, science teacher. Staff hopes the students have an open mind after seeing all the old fossils. “Find a curiosity about the world, get outside, you don’t necessarily have to get outside to explore the world check out your driveway a road out somewhere with an adult that’s safe and you can find all sorts of cool stuff,” UT-Martin Geologist Dr. Stan Dunagan said.
