Hundreds Of Local Students Out Of School Because of Water Issues

DYERSBURG, Tenn- The parking lot of Dyersburg Middle School remained empty on Wednesday and more than 700 students are out of class. “We were advised that we had a lack of water pressure at our Dyersburg Middle School,” Sandy Baker, Assistant Superintendent of Dyersburg City Schools, said. “So we had to call it off.” Around 9:30 Tuesday night, hours after officials called in city water employees, school was called off. “There is no way you can have school with that many students and teachers as far as lunches and restroom facilities go,” Baker said. According to Baker, city employees and some school officials worked until midnight to rectify the issue but had no luck. “We’ve had several people working and putting gages on the water line to find out what the problem is,” Baker said. Officials aren’t sure what the cause of the low water pressure is; but they said it’s slowly coming back up. They plan to have school Thursday; but that can all change if the water pressure isn’t where it needs to be by the start of class.
