JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police are searching for two gunmen after two men were shot inside of the Royal Arms Apartment Complex Monday afternoon. Around 2:30 p.m. officers were called to the Royal Arms Apartments off of North Royal Street in East Jackson. Officials said officers found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his groin area inside of the complex. He was transported to the hospital by an ambulance. Police said the second gunshot victim, a 23-year-old man arrived at the hospital by a private vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Some residents said they heard at least 15-20 shots fired off outside of their doors. Witnesses told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that the two gunmen fired several shots through the parking lot while running towards North Royal Street after a man. “One of them had an automatic weapon and it was just, “bam, bam bam bam bam,” said Witness Braoity Ross. “The other one had a handgun and he was shooting two or three times, they both were chasing him.” Both victims told officers that they were walking through the apartment complex when all of a sudden the gunmen started shooting at them. Police said neither gunshot victim lived in the apartment complex. Officers discovered that the 19-year-old gunshot victim did have possession of marijuana in his pants’ pocket. “My heart actually drops because they don’t seem to have a future with all this stuff going on like it is with innocent people, innocent kids it all just doesn’t make sense. These guns, it’s just unreal,” said neighbor Robert Easley. “This crime needs to stop, it really does need to stop.” Neighbors said the shooting happened right before school buses arrived at a time where several people were outside. “You know kids get out around 2:15 and you’ve got North Parkway Middle School over here. So yeah, people are going back and forth to get their kids out here,” said Ross. “It’s just too much you know for people to just shoot blindly. They were shooting up the street with cars going by and there could have been kids up there.” Police said the 23-year-old victim has been treated and released from the hospital. The 19-year-old is in stable condition. The descriptions of the two shooters are vague. Both shooters are described by witnesses as two black men wearing dark clothing. If you can help with the investigation call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS (8477).
