NORTH JACKSON — The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation established a fund for a man who fell ill at a grocery store last week and had his wallet stolen during the episode. Jimmie Stewart, 78, went to the Food Giant in south Jackson to pick up groceries on Nov. 15 and was feeling ill after undergoing kidney dialysis earlier that day. He is seen on surveillance tape accidentally dropping his wallet. This is when the man behind him steps on the wallet, slides it toward him, and takes it. Stewart had more than $1,300 in his wallet at the time. He says he needed that money to pay for his food and medicine. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News ran the surveillance footage and spoke with Stewart on Tuesday, who also has a wife sick with Alzheimer’s. After the outpouring of support from the community, West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation started the Jimmie Stewart Charitable Fund in a effort to restore and money he needs for medical bills and food. “This morning we just determined there was something that we can do and we kind of get folks excited about putting this guy’s life back together again,” Frank McMeen said, President of West Tennessee Healthcare. Donations can be sent to the Foundation at 620 Skyline Drive Jackson, TN 38301 or dropped off at any BancorpSouth branch in the West Tennessee area.
