Jackson Symphony Starts The Holiday Season With Pops Concert

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson Symphony‘s first Pops concert of the 2013-2014 season will take place 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. This family-friendly concert will feature two Broadway guest artists, Michele Ragusa and Christopher Johnstone, singing some holiday favorites. Christopher Johnstone is an American actor and singer noted for his considerable vocal range (from tenor to baritone). He has performed in many operas and musicals across the country and Canada. Johnstone has sung with Glimmerglass Opera, Lyric Opera San Diego, The Mark Morris Dance Group, Opera Pacific, the Pacific Symphony, the Cincinnati Pops, the Boston Pops, the Long Beach Pops and the Long Beach Symphony. Michele Ragusa has starred with the Toronto, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Long Beach, Baltimore, Chautauqua, Phoenix and Modesto Symphonies. She recently starred on Broadway in Mel Brook‘s “Young Frankenstein” as Elizabeth, succeeding Megan Mullally. Classics like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “White Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “The Christmas Song” will be performed as well as the “Hanukkah Festival Overture” and selections from “The Nutcracker” will also round out the evening. Conducting the performance will be Matthew Kraemer, the third of three candidates auditioning for the music director and conductor position with The Jackson Symphony. Recognized for his “musical sensitivity” and “energized sense of interpretation”, conductor Matthew Kraemer is quickly gaining notice for his inspired performances and versatility. Tickets are $25.
