1M Tenn. travelers avoid worst of weather, delays
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The nearly 1 million Tennesseans hitting the roads and airports for the busiest travel day of the year Wednesday appear to have avoided the worst travel snags caused by wintry weather.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says there were no major problems on state roads overnight when conditions had been expected to be at their most challenging.
The National Weather Service said total snowfall in the higher elevations in the northeastern part of the state could reach up to 5 inches, but that flurries were expected to taper off by midafternoon.
The Nashville Airport was experiencing no major delays or cancellations through the morning hours. Spokeswoman Emily Richard said that in recent years more travelers have been taking outbound trips earlier to extend their Thanksgiving holiday.
