Man convicted 11 years after rape of Tenn. teen

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Eleven years after a Tennessee high school student was sexually assault, her attacker has been convicted.
The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1bRUOXa ) reports Jerald Jefferson was convicted of aggravated rape last Friday.
The incident happened Oct. 4, 2002, when the victim – then 16 years old – was abducted from the Trezevant High campus by three men. They forced her into a car, put a pillowcase over her head and drove to another location, where the girl was raped. The victim testified she was later thrown from the car.
A rape kit was prepared but wasn’t tested until two years later when the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation received a grant to test kits in cases where there were no suspects.
Nothing was matched until 2010, when Jefferson’s DNA matched that of the rapist.
