Homeless families increase in Nashville
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A report says the number of homeless families in Nashville is on the rise.
The Hunger and Homelessness Survey by the U.S. Conference of Mayors released Wednesday found that the number of homeless families had increased over the past year by 25 percent.
Nashville outpaced the other 25 cities the survey analyzed, including Memphis, which saw a 5 percent decrease in the number of homeless families.
Homeless advocates in Metro Nashville told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/18X8ShR ) that they haven’t been able to keep up with the increase, turning away about one-third of people seeking help.
Officials say the reasons for the increase are unclear.
