Kentucky National Guard troops return

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – A Kentucky National Guard troop has returned home just in time for the holidays.

A statement from the guard says troops were welcomed home during a ceremony Sunday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Sarah Tichner, whose husband, Sgt. Rugger Tichner, was among the soldiers returning after spending nearly a year in Afghanistan, called it “probably the best gift we could ask for at Christmas.”

The combat engineers of the 149th Vertical Construction Company, who are based in Cynthiana and Olive Hill, spent their time in Afghanistan working on a variety of construction projects.
