New security contractor earns ‘very good’ marks

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) – The new security contractor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory has earned high marks on its first report card.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that the “very good” rating earned National Strategic Protective Services a fee of $519,320.

The firm took over security at Oak Ridge in late March as part of a security shake up at the Department of Energy facility.

The shakeup followed a breach at the Y-12 plant in July 2012. Three protesters were able to break into the plant and reached a high security protected area before being stopped.

The new contractor received an overall performance score of 96 for the period between March 24 and Sept. 30.
