Growing the Organic Tomato

Presenter: Colleen Johnson Nothing tastes better than a big, red, juicy tomato, plucked off the vine at the peak of ripeness, and eaten in the sunshine, right in the middle of your very own garden! Join Tennessee Master Gardener Colleen Johnson as she teaches you how to grow tomatoes the organic way. Proper care and feeding of the organic tomato plant will be covered. Diseases common to tomato plants in West Tennessee will be covered — including ways to prevent them whenever possible, and non-chemical responses if they creep into the garden anyway. Ways to prevent or minimize infestation by the tomato hornworm, the cutworm, and other insect infestations will be covered. Finally, Colleen will share the recipe for her special homemade nutrient formula — one that has allowed her to produce prize winning tomatoes for ten years now. Inexpensive and easy to make, it provides your tomato plant with all the macro, micro and trace nutrients it needs to thrive and grow, and includes some natural insecticidal, herbicidal and disease prevention elements as well.
