Police: Dyersburg man’s cause of death ruled “undetermined”

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — A forensic team said there was no evidence of traumatic injury in the death of a Dyersburg man. The remains of Curtis Tyler, 27, who went missing in 2012, were found in April after a turkey hunter made the discovery near the Forked Deer River in Dyersburg. The final report from the West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center said after examination, no evidence of traumatic injury was found and the cause of death is being ruled as undetermined. His father, Roy, said he is not discouraged by the results. “With them saying it was undetermined, that may cause people to talk more, say, ‘you know, we’re getting by with it, getting by with it,’ so it may be a good thing,” Roy Tyler said. Now that Curtis Tyler’s remains have been examined, the family is finally able to lay him to rest. “The family now has a place to go visit him and before he was laying in the woods for two years with no idea where he was at, at least we know where he’s at. It’ll be some peace at least,” Tyler said. He said for the first time in more than two years, he feels some sense of relief. “It’s like having a ton of bricks lifted off your back. One of them’s gone but one’s still there. When we find the people that done it, that’ll be gone too,” Tyler said. Now he and the family are asking for anyone to come forward and close the case. “If you have any kind of heart, turn yourself in… If not, the Lord will take care of you,” Tyler said. Dyersburg Police Department will continue to investigate any new leads in the case and urges anyone with any information to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at (731) 288-7679.
