NORTH JACKSON — During the next three days, an area-wide “emergency fundraiser” will be held at grocery stores in the Hub City. The fundraiser, benefiting the Salvation Army, will have green kettles set out in front of Kroger stores on Parkway Drive, University Street, and the Walmart on Emporium Drive to collect spare change. Salvation Army says the money will go to summer programs like rent and utility assistance. Volunteers say they’re helping the cause because they can relate. “I mean I’ve been there done that, I was needy at one time,” April Middleton said, a volunteer. “[I] went to the Salvation Army and got needed help.” The funds will also help pay for Tuesday afternoon programs. Volunteers will be at their locations from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.
