Man convicted of killing wife during fight
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee man has been convicted in the shooting death of his wife during an altercation in their home in 2011.
Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich says a jury found 34-year-old Willie M. Jones Jr. of Whitehaven was guilty of second-degree murder for killing 31-year-old Melody Harlmon Jones, on April 27, 2011, at their house. The jury handed down the verdict on Friday
Willie Jones testified that the handgun went off by accident, but the argument, threats he made to his wife and the shooting itself were recorded on a voicemail the victim’s brother received.
Melody Jones died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
He will be sentenced Sept. 9 by Judge James Lammey Jr.
