Carroll County museum reopens doors to communities across west Tennessee
MCKENZIE, Tenn.–One local museum reopens their doors for the community.
The Carroll County Historical Society hosted a ribbon cutting with fun for the whole family Sunday afternoon.
The museum is home of former Tennessee Governor Gordon Browning’s archives, the Carroll County Genealogical Research Library, and Carroll County War Memorial.
Leaders with the Carroll County Historical Society tells us about some of the accessibility improvements that have been included.
“We’ve gotten a lot of things. People have brought things, we’ve got all of Governor Browning’s things in here, and we tried to do a timeline with the pictures above, showing how he worked for the community and for the United States, as well,” said Jennifer Waldrup, vice president of the Carroll County Historical Society.
“We have a lot of genealogy in here. A lot of people have brought their stuff here. So in the old postmaster’s office, you can go in there, sit, go through all of your stuff, you can shut the doors if other people are coming through the museum and making racket. We want schools to come back, because before, it was a little bit crowded, and people just couldn’t get in here and walk around. but now you can make your way around and see everything.”
Waldrup says she’s excited for the museum to reopen, bringing both more space for the community and a chance to highlight history.
