JACKSON, Tenn. — The mother of Matthew Williams, the Gibson County man found stabbed to death Friday, tells WBBJ it was much more than a fight over a bicycle that killed her son. Williams mother said she spoke to her son hours before he was killed. “He said ‘I love you, mom’. He said ‘I’ll call you’,and then it was three hours later I was getting the other call,” Mathew’s mother, Linda Murphy, said. Williams was stabbed to death outside his mobile home in Humboldt early Friday morning. Witnesses say it was over a bicycle, but his mother says it was much more than that. “From what I heard, there were some other people who actually placed the bicycle in my son’s trash can,” Murphy said. She explained when Jason Collins showed up at her son’s door at Westhaven Mobile Home Park, what he did next was premeditated. “Instead of just shutting the door, they argued and then they started fighting and they say the fight was over as quick as it started,” Murphy said. This was Williams’ last week in Humboldt. She said he was about to move to Georgia with his brother, because he wanted a better life and was tired of living there. “For Matthew’s part, it was a little more than a bicycle cause he had a lot going on,” Murphy said. But now they sit in disbelief, because their loved one won’t ever get to experience that life he wanted. Murphy said her son didn’t have life insurance, and they’re trying to find a way to afford a proper funeral. If you’re interested in helping out, you can give to First Bank of Lexington and Jackson in Linda Murphy’s name. You can also give in Matthew Williams’ name to Medina Funeral Home.
