Authorities identify man who drowned in pool

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – Authorities have identified a man who drowned in a city swimming pool in the northeast Alabama town of Bridgeport over the weekend.

The Jackson County Coroner identified the man as 48-year-old Bert Weston Jr.

WHNT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1raABDl) that Weston was at a church function at the pool when he went under the water.

Deputies tell the Huntsville station that authorities were sent to the Bridgeport area around 5:30 p.m. Saturday and found Weston dead when they got to the scene.

Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen said it appears the drowning was an accident.

Bridgeport is just south of the Alabama-Tennessee line in Alabama’s northeast corner.
