Last day for Shelby County emergency chief
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Shelby County emergency management chief Bob Nations says he is not being re-appointed by Mayor Mark Luttrell to the position.
In a statement, Nations said Tuesday is his last day as director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness.
Luttrell was re-elected in August. Harvey Kennedy, Luttrell’s chief administrative officer, said the mayor wants to go in a different direction in his second term.
Nations helped lead the county, which includes Memphis, through the historic 2011 flood.
Nations says that during his tenure, the office has built partnerships with federal and state agencies, along with jurisdictions in three states and six counties.
He also said a partnership with the University of Memphis has allowed the Office of Preparedness to become a technologically advanced agency.
