Memphis officers who shot man identified
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Police have identified the five officers who were relieved of duty after the shooting of an armed man during a standoff.
Police say officers came upon a woman who was hiding behind a vehicle in a Memphis neighborhood just after midnight on Sept. 24. Police said a man then fired a shot at officers, penetrating the windshield of an unmarked police vehicle.
Officers told the man to drop his weapon. Police said the man instead pointed the handgun at his own head, then at officers.
Officers fired shots, striking the man multiple times. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Officers Jeffrey Arthur, Matthew Biggs, Verdo Jackson, Louie Martini and Mehdi Farzam have been relieved of duty pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting.
