Students aim to collect, preserve railroad history

ERWIN, Tenn. (AP) – Students at East Tennessee State University have begun a project to preserve history associated with the Clinchfield Railroad.

The Johnson City Press ( reports the group aims to collect history and stories from those familiar with railroad operations.

They took one of their first steps toward that goal on Monday during an open house at the Clinchfield Railroad Museum. Students were able to make contacts to begin collecting oral histories.

Information collected during the project will be stored in the school’s Archives of Appalachia.
