Kirkin’ of the Tartans Worship Service
Date: Sunday, November 2, 2014 Time: 9:30 am Place: First Presbyterian Church, Jackson (Sanctuary) The annual “Kirkin‘ of the Tartans” service celebrates the Scottish heritage of the Presbyterian Church. The Reverend John White will preside over the service, which will include a blessing of tartans, music by the Wolf River Bagpipes and Drums, readings from the Geneva Bible and Psalter, and special music provided by the FPC Sanctuary Choir. “Kirkin‘ of the Tartans” refers to the “churching” or “blessing” of Scottish tartans (plaids). You are encouraged to bring your family tartan to worship that Sunday and come forward to place the tartan on the chancel rail for a blessing. Tartans and other Scottish articles can be ordered from the Scottish Lion. You may access their website at www.scottishlion.com. Extra tartans will be available if you do not already have one, or if you simply wish to participate in the blessing ceremony. You don‘t have to be Scottish to join in the celebration. You are encouraged to call the church at 731-422-1591, visit the website at www.fpcjacksontn.org or email Sharyn Thompson at sharyn.thompson10@gmail.com for more information about the annual Kirkin‘ of the Tartans service.
