Pharmacy students giving free flu shots

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – College of Pharmacy students at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center are giving free flu shots to homeless people who participate in a community outreach program in Memphis.

The school’s American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists chapter was given a $3,000 grant last year to help vaccinate people with reduced incomes in Memphis.

The Health Science Center says 150 flu vaccinations will be given to people who attend the local “More Than a Meal” program sponsored by Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis.

No appointments are necessary, and the event is open to the public, although it is targeted toward people who attend the program, who are homeless or have extremely low income.

The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. CDT Thursday at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis.
