Black mold shuts down Tennessee elementary school

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) – An eastern Tennessee elementary school has been temporarily shuttered while officials clean out black mold.

Sullivan County Director of Schools Jubal Yennie says the building should reopen Monday, except for the affected first- and second-grade classrooms.

Yennie told the Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/1rsG6rz ) that children in the affected classrooms were relocated to give maintenance personnel the opportunity to investigate and remediate the affected areas.

Yennie says no students, faculty or staff have reported breathing or other health issues that could be related to the mold.

Students should report to the elementary school at the usual time on Monday. Teachers will escort second-grade students to the temporary rooms at Indian Springs Baptist Church.
