Williamson County inmate dies after emergency
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) – A Middle Tennessee jail inmate has died after being taken to a hospital because of a medical emergency.
The Williamson County sheriff’s office says 58-year-old Barry Williams of Collierville, Tennessee, was given aid by deputies and medical staff when the emergency occurred around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Williamson County Criminal Justice Center. Emergency Medical Services took Williams to Williamson Medical Center, and the sheriff’s office says he was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for surgery.
The sheriff’s office says Williams was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. Thursday.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sharon Puckett said in an email that an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Puckett said Williams had been in the jail since Oct. 1 on charges of resisting arrest and theft.
