Store owner charged with sales tax evasion
CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee store owner has been charged with eight counts of sales tax evasion.
Officers from the Tennessee Department of Revenue arrested 46-year-old Mukesh Bhikhabhai Patel of Crossville.
A Cumberland County grand jury indicted Patel on Monday. The charges say Patel attempted to evade $17,044.18 in sales tax due from November 2008 through December 2011.
Patel owns the Citgo Food Market in Crossville.
If convicted, Patel could be sentenced up to a maximum of two years in the state penitentiary and fined up to $3,000 for each of the tax evasion counts.
