Deputies fatally shoot suspect
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Knox County Sheriff’s office says deputies fatally shot a suspect who fired at them first.
According to media, the agency says the deputies were trying to arrest 29-year-old James Christopher McCown Jr. on multiple felony warrants outside a bar Thursday evening when the suspect produced a gun and fired.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Mike MacLean says officials believe McCown fired one or more shots at deputies before they returned fire. No deputies were injured.
A statement from the agency says McCown had active warrants on charges that included burglary, theft, violation of probation and failure to appear in court.
