Second trial to begin vehicular homicide case
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) – A second trial is set to begin for an East Tennessee man facing a vehicular homicide charge.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/1IY1XCy) reports proceedings for 24-year-old Cody Dingus are scheduled to being on Tuesday.
Dingus is charged in a 2011 Valentine’s Day crash that followed a short pursuit as he fled from police. Dingus and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Sheridan Edwards of Kingsport, were thrown from the vehicle. Edwards died five days after the crash.
A judge declared a mistrial during his first trial after a juror drove the route involved in the case and told others about it.
During the first trial, the defense conceded that Dingus had been drinking, but said Edwards jerked the wheel and caused the crash.
