Hunt Brothers rules rural pizza market from gas stations
ANDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – If you’re looking for pizza along a lonely southern highway, your best bet may be the same place you fill your car with gas.
Hunt Brothers Pizza is quietly winning over the rural South by slipping into places big-name pizza chains probably couldn’t survive. It has installed its pizza ovens at so many gas stations and convenience stores that it has more U.S. locations than either Domino’s or Pizza Hut.
The Hunt Brothers outlet at the Rightway Foodmart in Andersonville, Tennessee, gets plenty of business from Norris Lake boaters at a location that probably wouldn’t support a free-standing fast-food outlet. The pies start out as frozen crusts but still have won fans for their taste.
