Chattanooga detective fired after being arrested twice
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – A major crimes detective with the Chattanooga Police Department who was arrested twice within a four-month period last year has been fired.
Officials said on Monday that Police Chief Fred Fletcher fired Officer David Catchings after finding that he had violated the department’s code of conduct when he was arrested and charged with DUI in September and then taken into custody again and charged with domestic violence assault months later.
Catchings, who’d been on the force since 2006, was accused of slapping his mother-in-law on New Year’s Eve.
Public records do not list Catchings’ phone number, and he could not be reached.
Officials say Chief Fletcher will be asking the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission to strip him of the certification needed to qualify as a police officer.
