Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Lisa Seaton

FINLEY, Tenn. — Lisa Seaton has a love for learning that she wants to share with her 1st grade class at Finley Elementary School. “They want to come to school, especially when they’re 6 years old,” Seaton said. “They’re excited about learning and keep that excitement going and motivation going, and I think that will go a long way.” She wants her classroom to be a safe learning environment so her students can excel. “To let the kids know that they’re welcome, that they can take risks and they can be accepted and it’s OK,” she said. Seaton has been teaching for 17 years and engages her students by keeping a fun atmosphere for learning. “It kind of just rubs off on them,” she said. “When you’re excited about learning and you teach in an exciting and motivating way, I think that students pick up on that.” Reading is her passion, and she wants her students to value it like she does. “I want them to enjoy reading and the love of reading, because that goes a long way in every subject,” Seaton said. She puts her entire heart into teaching and brings an energy that keeps her students motivated. “We’re not in this for income,” she said. “We’re in this because we love learning and we want to instill that in young children.” Seaton will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award.
