MEDINA, Tenn. — The mother of last week’s two drowning victims spoke to hundreds Thursday in hopes of building a safe space for teenagers. Dorena Collier, mother of Sean and Keshawn Collier, said her sons went to the pond searching for fun because of the lack of safe entertainment options in Medina. She said a Christian community center is a solution that could save lives. “I want something to make sure that what happened to my boys never happens to another baby here in the city of Medina,” Collier said. Volunteers helping Collier said the center could cost more than a million dollars, but they are already creating fundraisers to reach that goal. Residents said it is worth it to supply a safe, fun place for the youth of Medina. “It’s awesome to know where your kids are, and you can go pick them up,” Josh Youmans said. Collier said they have planned the grand opening for the center to be sometime toward the end of 2016. West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation representatives said they are helping the family manage donations. To donate, you can visit their website at www.wth.org/foundation.
