Police search for suspect in high-speed pursuit

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol is searching for a suspect who led officers on a high-speed chase through two counties.

THP spokesman Lt. Bill Miller told media that the pursuit began after a trooper clocked a silver Lexus SUV going 103 mph in a work zone on Interstate 24 in Coffee County and attempted to pull it over. Police say the ensuing chase reached speeds of 120 mph and ended up in Rutherford County, where troopers had deployed a spike strip.

Police say the suspect’s vehicle went off the road into the grass and the person inside fled on foot.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and the Murfreesboro Police Department are assisting the THP, which also called in a helicopter to help with the search.
