Memphis Pyramid seeks old glory with new Bass Pro Shops

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Memphis landmark known as the Pyramid is coming back to life.

The 32-story building on the Mississippi River has been largely unused for 11 years when it stopped being a regular venue for basketball games and concerts.

But the Pyramid is opening Wednesday as the newest location for Bass Pro Shops.

The repurposed structure will also have a 105-room hotel designed like a hunting lodge, plus a bowling alley, archery range and man-made cypress swamp.

An observatory will offer panoramic views with a bar and restaurant atop the building.

Local officials hope that it becomes a major tourist attraction and shopping destination.
