Memphis mom indicted in fiery crash that injured daughter
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Prosecutors say a Memphis mother is facing drunken driving and child endangerment charges in a car crash that left her baby severely burned.
The Shelby County district attorney’s office said Tuesday that 25-year-old Jalieesa Gaines also has been indicted on charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving stemming from an Oct. 18 accident on Interstate 240.
Investigators said Gaines was driving a 2006 Nissan when she struck a median barrier and the car caught fire. Prosecutors say she told investigators she had two alcoholic beverages about an hour before the crash.
Her daughter, who was about 8 months old, suffered severe burns and was hospitalized in critical condition.
Gaines is jailed on $25,000 bond. Online records do not show if Gaines has a lawyer who can comment on her case.
