Asurion closing Great Falls call center in August

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) – A Tennessee-based company that offers extended warranties and insurance for electronics such as cellphones is closing its Montana call center in August, but is encouraging its nearly 350 employees to continue doing the same work at home.

The Great Falls Tribune reports (http://gftrib.com/1ETceP0 ) Asurion’s employees in Great Falls learned about the upcoming closure on Thursday morning.

A company called N.E.W. opened a call center in Great Falls in the late 1990s and added a second call center in 2000. It merged with Nashville, Tennessee-based Asurion in 2008 and began using the Asurion name in Great Falls in 2013.

Asurion said it was closing the call center to improve operating and infrastructure efficiencies.

The company says it will provide severance packages and job search assistance to employees who lose their jobs.
