Former Knox County jail employee indicted on assault charge
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A former Knox County jail employee has been indicted following an investigation into an excessive force incident.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a grand jury returned charges on Tuesday of official oppression and simple assault against former jailer Nicholas Jeremiah Breeden of Seymour.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1dOt9JK) reports Breeden was booked into the Knox County Detention Facility on Wednesday, but was released later in the day on a $5,000 bond.
Breeden was fired following an investigation into the Nov. 28 incident involving 52-year-old inmate Louis Flack of Knoxville, who was charged with aggravated assault.
The sheriff’s department’s Office of Professional Standards investigation found that Breeden used techniques that violated jail policy and use-of-force options taught by the sheriff’s office.
