Knoxville in the running for grant to fund bike park

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Knoxville bike club is currently in the running for a $100,000 grant to fund a trail-building project.

Multiple news outlets report Knoxville’s Appalachian Mountain Bike Club is competing for the Bell Built Grant, which is given by Bell Helmets to fund a gravity mountain bike trail. A spokeswoman says the proposed “Gravity Trail” will feature dirt trails that would cater to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders and will also include rock gardens, drops, and constructed features. The club intends create a world-class bike park in the city that would add to the area’s existing 42 miles of hiking and biking trails.

To win the grant, AMBC must win an online voting contest. Voting for the East Coast region began Monday.
