MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Megan Tomlin teaches fourth grade at East Elementary School. “Pretty much since first or second grade I knew that’s what I wanted to do, and once I got to college that just confirmed it,” she said. Tomlin graduated from the University of Memphis at Lambuth and started her teaching career three years ago. “I love the children and I love being able to help them excel and learn and just watch how far they can go,” she said. Tomlin enjoys teaching fourth grade. “They’re so sweet and they love you and they care about what you think,” she said. Tomlin admits the job is not always easy but says the reward definitely outweighs the challenge. “My favorite thing is just watching them grow and excel,” she said. “They grow so much through the year that it’s just amazing to see it.” Tomlin said they work hard each and every day at school. “These children, they need a teacher, somebody to help them grow educationally, but you also have to care for them, and they need to know that,” she said. Tomlin will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award. To vote for her or any of the other nominees, visit seehowitaddsup.com.
