Man drowns at former quarry in McMinn County

ATHENS, Tenn. (AP) – Emergency responders are investigating a drowning at a former quarry in McMinn County.

Multiple news outlets report rescue crews recovered the body of 31-year-old Warren McLean Dougherty of McMinn County at the Blue Cove Hideaway near Athens Tuesday. The man jumped off a cliff into the water and never resurfaced.

Sheriff Joe Guy says crews found his body a few hours later.

The Blue Cove Hideaway is an abandoned rock quarry that is a popular spot for swimming and cliff jumping.
