Regional Hospital agrees to $500K settlement for alleged Medicare, Medicaid fraud

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Jackson hospital has agreed to pay a half-million dollar settlement to resolve allegations of improperly billing Medicare and Medicaid. Regional Hospital agreed Friday to pay the United States a $510,00 settlement, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice. The improper billing allegedly involved unnecessary cardiac procedures performed over an eight-year period, according to the release. According to the allegations, the hospital defrauded Medicare and Medicaid in connection with the placement of unnecessary cardiac stents and other unneeded cardiac procedures from January 2004 to May 2012, the release states.
