STAR Center partners with Lincoln Elementary for ‘Lincoln Reads’ program

JACKSON, Tenn. — The STAR Center announces a new partnership aimed at helping young students improve their reading skills. The STAR Center’s new “Lincoln Reads” initiative will be based at Lincoln Elementary School. The 2012-13 state report card showed more than 82 percent of Lincoln’s Pre-K through 5th graders read below their grade level. “Lincoln Reads” will allow more than 70 students to meet weekly with a learning specialist on campus. “If they don’t get here, whether they can’t find transportation, whether the schedules do not work, whatever the reason, we are not reaching those. So that was one of the main reasons for us wanting to get outside the walls,” said Dave Bratcher, president of the STAR Center. “Lincoln Reads” is 100 percent donor funded, and the total cost must be raised before Aug. 3. A donor is offering to match all gifts up to $20,000. To find out how you can sponsor a child, visit the Seen on 7 section of our website.
