JACKSON, Tenn. — The attorney of a man charged in a February attack that left a Jackson police officer seriously injured entered a not guilty plea Tuesday. Cepeda Coble’s attorney waived a formal reading of the indictments and entered the not guilty plea on his behalf. Coble is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest. A previous mental evaluation was said to have resulted in insufficient information, and Judge Kyle Atkins on Tuesday ordered a second evaluation. Coble is accused of attacking Sgt. Mike Thomas Feb. 22 at a gas station at the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Carriage House Drive. Thomas has since recovered and returned to duty. Coble is scheduled to be back in court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 3.
