Operation: ‘Breaking Ice’ gets dozens of drug dealers off street

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A multi-agency sweep Friday morning in Henry County nets more than two dozen arrests. In the wee hours of the morning, deputies kicked down doors looking for the area’s most wanted. Thirty people already have been picked up, and deputies said they’re not even close to being finished. “I think that’s the biggest one we’ve ever done. It’s really a lot of folks,” Sgt. Clyde Sulcer with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said. It was all part of Operation: Breaking Ice, a 7-month undercover operation where Henry County’s Metro Crime Unit bought drugs from unsuspecting dealers. “We’re not going to tolerate what they do,” Sulcer said. “I mean they can do what they want for a little while, but we’re coming for them eventually.” During raids on a number of homes, deputies seized a handful of guns, thousands in cash and more than an ounce of “ice” meth. “I think if you were an ice user, you’re probably having a hard time finding a place to go buy some right about now,” Sgt. Sulcer said. The suspects, all 47 of them, were wanted for everything from crystal meth to prescription drug diversion, but not all of them were found. “We’ll do pretty good and round them up right off the bat,” Sulcer said. “But there are always going to be those people we don’t find that are moving or traveling from house to house.” Although there’s still 18 on the run, deputies said they’ll find their way to a cell one way or another. “You should just come and turn yourself in,” Sulcer said. “You’re going to end up here anyway, so take care of whatever you have to take care of and get ready to come visit us.” The Henry County Sheriff’s Department and police departments from Paris, Henry and Puryear make up the Metro Crime Unit. The TBI, FBI and Tennessee Highway Patrol also assisted in Friday’s roundup. Operation: Breaking Ice will continue into the weekend.
