Trinity Christian Academy’s volleyball team had their final practice in Jackson on Monday afternoon. The Lady Lions are heading to Murfreesboro on Tuesday for their seventh consecutive state tournament. “We came into this season super young because we lost six seniors from last year. I think a lot of people weren’t sure what to expect,” head coach Kelly Elliott said. “They felt like underdogs and wanted to prove everyone wrong.” That’s exactly what TCA did. They repeated as District 15-A Champions and are hoping to return to the state championship. TCA will play Summertown on Wednesday in the first round. The Lady Lions earned a trip to Murfreesboro with a 3-2 win against Halls. “More than anything my team needs to relax,” Elliott said. “Sometimes with inexperience you can tighten up a little bit, and get a little scared in a new situation. If we can relax and focus on playing our game, I think it’s a winnable match for us.” Elliott added she never doubted her team to make it this far. “I really believed this team had the talent to win district and get back to state. I knew it would be a lot tougher,” Elliott explained. “Tougher or more difficult isn’t always bad. It’s good to have to work for things.”
