Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Karen Morganti

JACKSON, Tenn. — Karen Morganti has been working in the classroom for almost 30 years. “I just love children. I’ve worked with them since I was in high school,” said Morganti.

Karen Morganti“I love to do art and crafts with them. We do a lot of that and it’s giving them a good foundation to love learning at a young age.”

She works with Cubs at the University School of Jackson and said it can be a challenge keeping them entertained.

“They’re 3 and 4 and their attention span changes like that. So keeping them — I call it controlled chaos in the classroom. They’re all doing separate things at separate times.”

Morganti’s favorite moments as a teacher are when her students come back to visit her.

“I had an old kindergartner come back today and read to my class. She’s in a part of the Miss Tennessee program. When they come back and see me, it means a lot.”

She said good educators have a sense of humor and are able to laugh when things do not always go as planned.

“You learn by making mistakes so we just — we dance and sing and go outside and we blow bubbles and we just let them be kids.”

Morganti will now be eligible for the state-wide Tennessee Education Lottery, Educator of the Month award.
