A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Lake, Obion, Dyer, Lauderdale, Tipton, and Shelby counties until 10 a.m. Saturday morning. 1″-3″ of rainfall is possible with the next wave of showers and thunderstorms that move through the area later tonight.

Weather Update – 10:30 p.m. Friday

Another wave of showers and thunderstorms will move through West Tennessee tonight, but not everyone will get this round and some will get heavier showers than others. Northwest Tennessee and counties near the Mississippi River appear likeliest to see heavy rain tonight where as southwest Tennessee near the Tennessee River isn’t as likely to get as many showers tonight. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for counties near the Mississippi River where heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding on area roads in those counties. Temperatures will drop slowly to the lower and middle 60s by sunrise at 6:07 a.m. Saturday morning. The weekend forecast doesn’t look good for West Tennessee, but then again, it’s NOT going to be raining all weekend long.

SATURDAY

While models are now disagreeing a lot more on the rain forecast for Saturday morning, it still appears that rain will be likely Saturday morning before we get a break in the later morning and afternoon. In any event, it looks like we’ll go from having more widespread activity to more localized showers and thunderstorms as the day goes on. If there’s enough energy in the atmosphere tomorrow afternoon, some thunderstorms could become strong or even severe. We’re currently looking at a slight risk (2 out of 5) risk for severe weather tomorrow across the western half of West Tennessee. The main threat tomorrow with any storms that become severe will be with damaging winds and large hail. High temperatures will be somewhat limited by the rain, but we’re generally expecting highs in the middle to upper 70s.

SUNDAY
A cold front will sweep through the region on Sunday continuing a chance for showers and thunderstorms in West Tennessee from Saturday night into Sunday morning and afternoon. Data continues to lead me to believe that most of the rain will be done by the later hours of the afternoon or early evening but that’s not set in stone. There’s a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather on Sunday across most of West Tennessee.  Stay with the VIPIR 7 Storm Team for the very latest updates as this forecast is subject to change.
