Weather Update – 11:00 p.m. Wednesday
Muggy conditions will keep temperatures from dropping too far with overnight lows in the middle and upper 60s. Expect a mainly dry night for West Tennessee but it’s possible that some scattered showers arrive in parts of northwest Tennessee early Thursday morning.
THURSDAY
Tomorrow, a cold front will move through West Tennessee bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the area. This will take place between the late hours of the morning and last through at least the early evening.

There is a slight risk for severe weather in West Tennessee which means that scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible.

The main threats will be large hail and damaging winds in any thunderstorms that become severe tomorrow. The chance for a tornado is minimal at best right now.

All of the ingredients will be present to create strong thunderstorms tomorrow, but like a recipe, if one ingredient is left out, you won’t get the result you were expecting. Energy, moisture, and lift – the three main ingredients to make thunderstorms – will be there, but won’t have enough shear, which is the element that keeps storms alive and allows them to become even stronger.

It’s possible that if we get any showers or thunderstorms in the morning, that we won’t get a significant enough amount of energy to cause severe weather. It’ll be mostly just a “wait-and-see” type of morning, at which point we’ll be able to know more about what will happen during the afternoon.
END OF THE WEEK
The cold front will leave us Thursday night with drier, clearer, and cooler weather to end the week. Another cold front will come through Friday night to reinforce the cool air ahead but currently appears to come through without rain. Highs will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s this weekend.
