1 injured in midtown Jackson shooting; suspect at large

JACKSON, Tenn. — Police are investigating a Friday afternoon shooting that left one man seriously injured at Allenton Heights Apartments in midtown Jackson.

Allenton Heights shooting 3Police say one victim, a 59-year-old man, suffered serious but not life-threatening injures. They would not say where or how many times he was shot.

Officers are seeking one suspect they describe as a black man with dreadlocks, a medium complexion and standing around five feet nine inches tall.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery around 1:30 p.m. outside the 225 building of the complex. Once at the scene, they spoke with the victim and determined the incident was not a robbery.

There is a city crime camera mounted across the street from where the shooting took place, and police say they will be using it to gather possible evidence.

The incident took place outside a former Jackson Police Department precinct that still serves as a field office, according to the department.

Officers could be seen processing the scene and photographing evidence.
