Committee meets to discuss Memphis Regional Megasite progress
JACKSON, Tenn. — Committee members met Monday to discuss the progress of the Memphis Regional Megasite.
Many county mayors were in attendance as members heard a report from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development including an update that infrastructure has been approved.
Committee chair and Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith says this has been a work in progress since 2004.
“It won’t be no big secret if they announce that they picked the Memphis Megasite,” Smith said. “We’ll make sure that word gets out to everyone who is looking for a job, and then from there we will get you information to where you can go apply.”
Smith says they currently have one major potential tenant and should have the decision by September.
He also says this is just the start and that they hope to attract a major automotive company.
