Brief high speed chase, crash leads to arrest

JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman was arrested early Thursday after a traffic stop turned into a brief police chase.

lewisAccording to a police report, Jackson Police attempted to stop a vehicle in the 1000 block of Hollywood Drive around 1:40 a.m., Thursday when Shamika Lewis failed to stop, leading the police on a high speed chase.

Police said after they gave Lewis visual and audible signals, she attempted to elude the officers by turning around and accelerating at a high speed.

During the chase, Lewis ran a red light and crashed shortly after turning onto Airways Boulevard, causing her car to become disabled, according to the report. Police said she then fled the scene and was apprehended by officers.

She has been charged with evading arrest among other charges, according to court documents.

Lewis is in jail on a $25,000 bond. Her next court date is set for August 4 at 1:30 pm.
